Birth reactions and depression
It is never too late to work on attachment, either as a parent or as a child.
The connection between child and parents is incredibly important for the rest of life, for both children and parents. An attachment that already starts inside the mother's womb. A start to life where the child does not feel wanted and loved can affect him/her for the rest of his life.
It is important that the parents who are affected by postpartum depression or a milder variant thereof (birth reaction) accept help. With help and insight, the good connection can be created.
Approx. one in four women and one in eight men is affected by a birth reaction. Approx. one in ten women develops postpartum depression.
Under a third of women who have postpartum depression are never diagnosed and treated. There is a 50% risk of a recurrence with the next pregnancy/birth. That is why it is so important to get help for the whole family.

but you can ruin a perfectly good present,
by worrying about the future."
